Allianz Insurance displayed a Road Safety Week banner in Guildford on the side of their building in order to raise awareness of the Road Safety Week campaign and encourage people to drive safely.

arval

Arval issued a Drive4Life Newsletter to all staff, providing information about Brake’s Pledge and other road safety topics, and providing free tyre and glass checks for all staff .

The organisation also helped to raise awareness in their community by arranging for The Puppet Broadcasting company to go into Swindon & Wiltshire Colleges and perform road safety shows to 500 students.

ASCO and ARR CRAIB worked with Foveren and Longhaven Primary School, delivering road safety presentations and providing students with the opportunity to sit in the cab of one the trucks to demonstrate the dangers of blindspots at the front of vehicles.

Ten giant road safety banners were displayed at schools throughout Scotland to help encourage drivers to slow down to 20mph around homes, schools and shops.The organisations have made a combined donation of £7,000 in support of Brake.

bailies

Bailies Auto Refinishers held a free event to provide drivers with basic car maintenance skills such as changing tyres and windscreen wipers and checking oil. Drivers were also shown defensive driving techniques. A collection was made on the evening to support Brake’s education and support work.

Bakers Personal Injury Solicitors held Bright Days at their offices in Farnborough, Farnham, Aldershot and Redhill. Bakers’ staff came to work dressed in brightly coloured clothing in order to highlight the need for pedestrians and cyclists to be seen. Bakers collected donations from staff that dressed brightly, sold cakes and held a raffle to raise funds for Brake.

Balfour Beatty Fleet Services’ senior leadership team visited three high schools in the Derby area, West Park School, Derby College and Friesland School, to deliver interactive presentations which encouraged Year 11 and 12 students to drive safely.

Canter Levin & Berg coordinated a road safety day at Litherland High School alongside the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Services in Liverpool. The event included road safety presentations and a crash extrication, during which one of the school's students was cut out of a wrecked car to demonstrate the aftermath of a road crash.

Castrol provided all employees and contractors with the opportunity to have a free car maintenance check-up during the Week. Employees were also provided with training on how to conduct these life-saving checks on a regular basis to ensure that their vehicles are safe to drive. All of Castrol’s drivers were also encouraged to make Brake’s Pledge, a six point commitment to safe driving behaviour which will help to protect people on foot and bicycle in Swindon and across the UK.

Colas Limited engaged their staff on the importance of slowing down to 20mph around homes, schools and shops by running a Bright Day on 23 November 2012 at their head office in Crawley and across the UK, where everyone wore fluorescent clothing to work. This is particularly important message during the winter months as darker nights and worsening weather conditions reduce visibility and make it harder to see children and pedestrians.

DBS Law delivered their ‘Clock On To Road Safety’ presentation to local schools during the Week as part of their partnership with Birmingham City Council, encouraging children to stay safe by the roadside. Alongside these community activities, the organisation engaged their own staff on the importance of slowing down to 20mph around homes, schools and shops by running a Bright Day, where everyone wore fluorescent clothing to work and took part in a road safety quiz, raising over £500 for Brake.

The organisation also announced that it will be teaming up with Birmingham City Council and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra to produce a road safety concert, which will be performed in front of 3,000 children in the New Year.

Driver Hire: Driver Hire offices throughout the UK displayed road safety posters and banners which they designed around the theme of slower speeds = happy people. They also distributed information via company newsletters on the theme of the Week to encourage other people to get involved.

eddies

Eddie Stobart employees worked closely with schools across the UK to raise awareness about road safety. In Warrington they visited Bradshaw Lane Primary School and delivered a road safety presentation, held a quiz and ran poster challenge. In Northamptonshire employees visited West Haddon Primary School and worked with the children to raise awareness about the importance of Being Bright and Being Seen and following the Green Cross Code whilst on foot and bike on the roads. In Widnes, Cheshire, the organisation visited Oakfield Primary school and delivered road safety presentations to pupils.

GE Capital Fleet Solutions held a week of road safety events. On Monday the organisation ran a speed awareness day and used a speedometer to monitor driver's speeds outside their building.

Tuesday was a winter driving day, and GE Capital provided free tyre and windscreen checks for employees alonside a winter driving pack to help keep them safe

On Wednesday, the RAC were invited in to deliver a seminar on safe driving to employees, helping to refresh drivers on the risks of driving. Thursday was the organisation's fund raising day, where they had a cake sale, dress down day and a raffle to win a BMW for the weekend, raising a total of £185 for Brake.

To complete the week, the organisation ran a drink driving awareness day on Friday, where employees were given the opportunity to learn about units of alcohol via a drinks calculator.

Guide dogs for the blind held a road safety awareness workshop at their National breeding centre on the 20 and 21 November in association with Applied Driving Techniques. The workshops covered hazard awareness, hazard perception, speed awareness, road signs and markings, high risk routes, alcohol awareness, vehicle safety systems and driver distraction

kingdom

Kingdom Housing Association supported Road Safety Week by issuing road safety bulletins to their staff throughout the Week, full of tips on how to stay safe on the roads. They also distributed road safety posters and leaflets to all their offices to help raise awareness.

Kuehne + Nagel held a poster competition internally in the run-up to the Week, encouraging staff to ask their children to design road safety posters. There was an array of creative entries from across the UK, and the winning designs will be made up into posters by Kuehne + Nagel over the coming months and distributed throughout their branches to remind drivers about the importance of slowing down to 20mph around schools and in built up urban areas.

London Motor Museum held a free open day to help promote road safety with the local safer neighbourhoods team and the fire service. The fire service arrived in their fire truck which was on display. Hot drinks and homemade cakes were sold in the coffee shop to raise money for Brake.

michelin

Michelin Tyres ran a ‘Fill up with Air’ event at the Asda on Avon Road in Cannock, offering residents a free tyre pressure check. They also visited South and City College in Birmingham to teach students the importance of road safety through workshops. To help bring the workshops to life, Michelin were joined by specialist puppeteer, Steve Wright, who presented his Theatre in Education show; ‘Routes – The Teenage Highway Code’.

Network Rail focussed on a different aspect of Brake’s Pledge every day during Road Safety Week, with poster campaigns, email bulletins, tool box talks and quizzes engaging staff on the importance of avoiding distractions such as mobile phones, getting regular eye tests, and avoiding driving tired. The organisation also held a Bright Day on Friday 23rd of November to encourage staff to slow down and watch out for children around schools and in built up urban areas.

NHS Western Isles promoted Brake's new GO 20 campaign on media screens and patient notice boards throughout Road Safety Week, as well as raising awareness on work-related driving risks to staf

Northamptonshire Police conducted parking patrols at just under 100 schools in the area, and provided road safety talks to children at a further 40 schools and colleges and leaflets. The department also cracked down on dangerous driving behaviour during the Week, seizing cars with no insurance or MOT, issuing fixed penalty notices to drivers caught using a mobile phone and not wearing seatbelts, and arresting one person for drink driving.

Phillips 66 engaged staff on the importance of staying safe by the roads throughout the week using various interactive activities. Topics included the importance of slowing down around schools, homes and shops, the dangers of driving tired and the need for regular eye tests. At the end of the week, all staff were encouraged to sign up to Brake’s Pledge, committing to support safe driving and sustainable transport to help protect children and pedestrians in Warwick and across the UK.

Tyres on the Drive held a charity cake bake with staff encouraged to bake automotive themed cakes for a fundraising coffee morning. The morning also raised awareness about important road safety issues, including the need to slow down to 20mph around homes, schools and shops. All funds raised were donated to Brake to support the charity’s work caring for families bereaved and injured by road crashes.

ultralase

Ultralase launched a competition to design a special ‘GO 20’ banner to also help drive awareness during Brake’s Road Safety Week. The winning entry will be used as the cover image for the company’s Facebook in addition to being displayed in the winner’s local clinic. Ultralase also placed collection boxes for Brake in the receptions of all their clinics, and conducted further fundraising through its Facebook page – every time a follower shared a specific post relating to Road Safety Week 2012, the company donated £1 to the charity.

webuyanycar.com launched a campaign called See Me Stay Safe, encouraging children to stay visible as the days get darker. webuyanycar.com has distributed 5,000 hi-visibility vests to 5,000 children from 17 schools in Chester during the build-up to Road Safety Week, providing an invaluable resource to help children stay safe this winter.
